A thin broken strand of islands curves out into the Atlantic Ocean and then back again in a sheltering embrace of North Carolina's mainland coast and its offshore sounds. These are the Outer Banks of North Carolina. For thousands of years these barrier islands have survived the onslaught of wind and sea. Today their long stretches of beach, sand dunes, marshes, and woodlands are set aside as Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

The Cape Hatteras camping trip is legendary amongst past campers. Once arriving at the campground, campers and counselors will set up camp and prepare for the days activities. After the work is done, its usually a mad dash to the beach to cool off, surf, fish & snorkel. Don't have a surfboard, fishing pole or snorkel equipment? Don't worry, we provide it all.
After working up appetite at the beach, dinner usually involves everyone pitching and helping prepare a well deserved meal. The nights activities usually involve a ride into town for go-kart racing and ice cream. This trip runs Sunday through Friday and is $690.00 including transportation, food and one heck of a good time.

A typical day in Hatteras consists of:

  • Daybreak, campers and counselors run down the trail to the beach to check the surf. If the surf is going off, counselors will paddle out with the campers for an early morning session while the less stoked campers stay at the campsite with a counselor and catch up on sleep and eat.

  • By 9 AM everyone is usually back at the campsite having breakfast, socializing and beating Pete at Connect Four.

  • After everyone eats and pitches in with cleanup, EVERYONE heads down to the beach for surfing and fun in the water.

  • Around noon, lunch is served at the campground. For lunch we will have ham, turkey, cheese and peanut butter and jelley for the campers to make a sandwich of their choice from.

  • Depending on the weather and conditions, we will either go back to the beach or head out on a day trip.

  • Day trips consist of a visit (and climb) to the famous Cape Hatteras Light House, a scenic ferry ride to Ocracoke Island, a tour of In the Eye surf shop and surfboard shaping demonstration by legendary surfboard shaper Scott Busby and visiting all of the local attractions and unique opportunites that we have found in our 10 years of offering this trip.

  • In the evening everyone pitches in cooking and preparing the campsite for dinner. Dinners consisit of hot dog and hamburger night, taco/burrito night, pasta night, and on the final evening an all you can eat pizza fest at the Gingerbread House.

  • We could write pages based upon all of the fun we have had on our trips, to find out for yourself check out some photos of past trips in our photo gallery.
